A classic, smooth English porter – rich dark ruby coloured ale with undertones of coffee and molasses.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a dark reddish brown with minimal off-white head and good lacing. The nose is vaguely fruity, but dark fruits come much more to the front in the mouth. There’s some sweetness and roast malts plus traces of chocolate. Finish is sweet and fruity. Nice enough, but not overly exciting – just a decent porter.

Bottle from Booths, Media City. Dark but clear with a thin head. Has a sweetness married with a light smooth roasted malt flavour. Nice mid-roasted nose and medium bodied.

Very rich with quite a creamy texture. Strong roasted malty flavour but not too bitter. Has a slightly herbal, floral in the aroma too.
