A true delight of a beer, taking some of the classic character of British export stouts and delivering a Belgian style twist. Characterful Abbaye yeast delivers dark fruit notes alongside just a touch of strong roast character. Rich, sweet and warming but never overpowering.

Bottle from Beer 52. Appearance - opaque black with a fluffy fawn head. Nose - molasses and light smoke. Salt liquorice. Burnt toffee. Taste - dark chocolate, smoke and molasses. Maybe something resembling blueberry. Palate - medium bodied and creamy. Nicegentle and long finish. Overall - very nice.

33cl bottle from the Beer52 box for September. An opaque cola-brown coloured pour with an immediately dissipating beige head, and more carbonation than usually found in a stout; aroma of Belgian yeast and chocolate syrup; rather thin and astringent in the mouth, with some harsh malts and a woody bitterness; then some warmth in the finish. Rather unbalanced overall.
