A modern dark beer, with aromas of dark chocolate, treacle sweet flavours, roasted bitterness with a surprisingly hoppy finish from American Cascade hops.

Bottle at home, Christmas gift. Consumed 6th January 2013. Pours deep ruby with thin ring-and-film off-white head. Mildly malty aroma with some berry fruits. Roasty in-mouth; tart berries and touches of smoke. Fruity finish with solid bitter core. Zingy mouthfeel and light to medium body. Very pleasant and quaffable.

Dark, almost black ale which is a porter in style but also very chocolaty in flavour. Roasted malts are evident in both aroma and taste. Fine ale, no head.

Cask at CBC - Clerkenwell, London. Pours clear, dark brown with a fine, tan cream head. Soft roasted coffee nose, some dry cocoa, mild lactic tang. Light sweet flavour with restrained roasted malts, dusty cocoa, a bit of tobacco ash, some earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Bit of dry roast malts to finish, light bitter earth, subtle cocoa. Nice stout, though the character could be a touch more robust.

500mL bottle, pours a dark brown with a reddish tinge and a one-inch beige head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, dark fruits (plums, cherries), and caramel. Flavour of dark roasted malts upfront, with some burnt wood, less of the dark fruits and less sweetness than on the nose. Medium-bodied and quite easy to drink. Good.
