5/IX/20 - 33cl bottle, shared @ Sako brewery, BB: n/a (2020-855) Thanks to ElManana+1 for driving and sharing today’s beers!

Clear blond orange beer, small creamy off-white head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: malty, grains, hay, banana, yeasty, floral character. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty acidic start, bit spicy, peppery touch, some cardamom, bitter, lemony touch. Aftertaste: very yeasty, bitter, wry finish, malty, bit sweet, banana, spices. Not bad, not great either.

Wheat tripel ('tarwetripel') from a microbrewery housed in a 'square' farmstead in the Pajottenland region, started up less than a fortnight ago and also producing liquor apparently. From a 75 cl bottle, sample at Lambiekstoempers Bierfestival. Off-white, moussy, thin and loosely structured and therefore quickly opening and dissolving head, cloudy straw blonde robe with ochre-ish hue. Aroma of a lot of buttermilk diacetyl (this sample is clearly too young), cream corn, green pear, bread pulp, some light DMS (overcooked cauliflower), dust, powder sugar, straw, green banana, rainwater, pineapple. Fruity onset with apple and light banana notes but restrained in both sweetness and esteriness, minerally carbonation effects, soft and creamy middle with the creaminess accentuated by a strong diacetyl presence (the buttermilk factor), 'old bread'- and dry cereal-like malt body, dryish and feeling a bit 'empty', some bready yeastiness in the finish with very mild spicy (partially phenolic) accents and a (too) light floral hop bitterishness. The cereally, lightly bready main flavour keeps prevailing - in other words, not a lot happens here, this beer dramatically lacks personality and fullness, and is, adding insult to injury, not even free of technical flaws. Poor start, I'm afraid, especially for something as mundane as a tripel (in Belgian context, at least).
