Sussex Best is our most famous beer, a superbly balanced bitter with prominent hop character. The brew evolved over decades, satisfying the expectations of the people of Sussex and its adjoining counties. Finest Maris Otter malted barley is supplemented with a dash of Crystal malt for balance. Our hops are a blend of four different local varieties, to give a distinctive hoppy finish.

Cask @ Woodins Shades, London. Clear dark gold/amber with a small white head. Aroma of marzipan and mild citrus fruits. Taste of marzipan, toffee, sapless citrus fruits and tea. Low bitterness. Low carbonation. I‘ve had better but do wonder if this was well kept.

Deep amber with a frothy / creamy off-white head and a lovely malt and hop aroma. Smooth and fresh with an almost spicy kick, malt and fruit cake with hop bitterness and a dry finish.

Harvey’s Sussex Best
Cask at the Royal Oak, Borough on 11th June 2025. Clear dark copper with shallow off-white foam and scant lacing. Richly malty in aroma. Spicy and nutty maltiness in-mouth with an abundance of herby grasses, which go on to feature in an otherwise malty, long finish. A smooth mouthfeel and a fair amount of body. A most rewarding ale. Kept perfectly.
