Sussex Best is our most famous beer, a superbly balanced bitter with prominent hop character. The brew evolved over decades, satisfying the expectations of the people of Sussex and its adjoining counties. Finest Maris Otter malted barley is supplemented with a dash of Crystal malt for balance. Our hops are a blend of four different local varieties, to give a distinctive hoppy finish.

From cask at Charlies, thanks to Hildigรถltur. Pours clear and deep orange with a little lacing head. Vague hoppy aroma. Flavour is somewhat mouldy with a slight earthy tone. Finish is bitter and slight herbal. Decent.

Cask (at the Royal Oak): Amber, small, but lacing white head, the nose is dominated medical, herbal hops, shy fruity malt in the edges, moderate dry bitter flavour, light bodied, lingering medical-bitter finish. O.K., could be a bit better balanced.......

Cask (handpump) @ Royal Oak, SE1 Borough, London. Clear medium amber color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted to burnt, nutty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is creamy, carbonation is flat.

Cask at C4, Odense: Fine copper/golden with a creamy head. Floral hoppy & light malty notes in the aroma. Smooth & soft body. Mainly hops in the taste.. finish is lasting bitter. In between there is some Rye & bread! Great cask!

Cask@Market Porter. Coppery amber colour with small white head. Aroma is hops, slight earthy skunkyness. Flavour is very much the same, but has a huge wooden finish and aftertaste to it. Also some herbs noteable.

amber , with lots of fruit maly in the nose,, full balanced fruitmalt with a little bitter linger, good in its class GBBF tasting session amber ... peppery hop ... citrusy fruit ... quite hoppy very fruity ... 3.3 (again good to see consistant scoring)
