Pitch black colour. Light brown head, short retention. Aroma's of sweet drop/licorice, light roast, chocolate and fruit. Retronasal I get some fruit, light roast, chocolate, a touch of wood and umami. Flavour is moderate sweet, chocolatey, light roasted. Fairly strong alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Long finish with some wood and roast, moderate bitter. The barrel ageing is very subtle, or the bottle is too old. Still a very nice beer.

--- Beer merged from original tick of Zwarte Snorre Barrel Aged Auchroisk Whisky on 30 Nov 2018 at 23:34 - Score: 7. Original review text: Black, chocolate, cacao, whisky, alcohol, sweet, not much peat however, still nice

Bottle [from trade with bierkoning, thanks!] @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown colored head that lasts for a decent while and leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, dark malts, roasted malts, nice whiskey influence and lightly peat but very balanced. Flavor is very much the same: malts, dark and roasted malts, whiskey influence, lightly peat but again it's very balanced and it adds a nice extra touch and never becomes overly dominant. Smooth mouthfeel while similar beers, maybe even from Berghoeve itself, are more rough and not nearly so 'round'. Oats or oatmeal or whatever the correct name is in English must be in here, loads of em. Dark chocolate notes, lingering dark malt and dark chocolate bitterness with a light whiskey touch in the background. The dark chocolate I'm having on the side makes it nearly perfect. Quite thick texture, full body, suitable soft to decent carbonation that fits the beer perfectly. Well, I've been a fan and supporter of this brewery for a long time, shortly since they started I was introduced to their beers and was convinced they had a good thing going. This -I think- has been their best beer to date. I will try this again! I will try this again and rate this again and I hope this will be just as good whenever I open one. Today at least it has been very very very tasteful. Cheers!

Bottle at home thanks to Bierkoning for the bottle! Black with brown bubbly head that leaves a nice ring. Coffee, lots of dark chocolate, toffee, soft vanilla, quite some booze but in a smooth way, some red wine and soft herbs. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Almost full bodied with oily feel and barely any carbonation. Pretty damn nice!
