Tief schwarz schimmernd und mit einem beigefarbenen, imposanten Schaum überzeugt diese urfränkische Bamberger Kultbiersorte in seiner Optik. Ein deutlicher Geruch nach Rauch, der sich prägnant in der Nase zeigt und dahinter eine ausgewogene, fruchtige Hopfennote aus feinsten Hallertauer Aromahopfen, lässt sich erkennen. Der rauchige Geschmack entsteht durch die Verwendung von Buchenholz während der Trocknung des Malzes. Am Gaumen finden der samtige Geschmack von Lakritze, geräuchertem Schinken, dunkler Schokolade und röstigen Karamellnuancen liebevoll zueinander. Eine echte Spezialität für Kenner und Liebhaber dieser ursprünglichen Biersorte.

500ml can pours out dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is big smoke some meat also. Taste is more of the nice smoke meat notes and a little ash. Very nice

Dunkelbraune Farbe mit weißer Schaumkrone. Malziger, rauchiger Geruch. Geschmacklich malzig, rauchig mit Speck und Schinken, leicht hopfig. Hohe Süße mit leichter Bitterkeit, mittlerer Körper mit spürbarer Kohlensäure.

On tap at Klosterbrau Bamberg. Very deep brown dark cola colour. Lasting tan head. Smoke aroma. Smoke is a little bonfire and more smoked sausage than smoked ham. I had the Spezial Lagerbier earlier and this is a level of smoke more than that. Smoked bbq grill meat charred bbq smoke. Not that I am complaining I like this level of smoke. Its deep yet light. Full on smoke. With a light dark malty background. I mean as a sensory experience it's remarkable. Lovely beer.

Pour is almost a black with a huge tan head. Aroma is smoke and meat. Ham and bacon bomb. Flavor is a little less meaty but all the smoke is here. Like drinking a campfire. Excellent smoke flavor.

Smoked meat, caramel malt, and hay aroma. Dark brown with large tan head. Mildly sweet smoked ham, honey, caramel malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Okay body. Nice.

500ml bottle. Dark chestnut colour with weak ruby shimmer and average to huge, frothy to creamy, slowly osteoporosing, moderately lacing, beige head. Smoky, minimally ashy, slightly roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of smoked wood, barbecue sauce, smoked ham, a touch of TCP, old motor oil, burnt caramel. Taste is smoky malty, slightly caramel malty and minimally roasty, dark malty, hints of smoked eel, smoked ham, dark caramel, smoked wood, a touch of wood ashes, mildly bitter, grassy hoppy overtones, quasi no residual sweetness. Oily-watery texture, smooth and soft, simultaneously minimally dry palate, medium, soft, mildly prickly carbonation. Not as balanced, rich and ingenious as Schlenkerla, a tad more rustic - pretty good nevertheless.

0,5 l bottle from Zisch, Wildeshausen. Nearly black in the glass, foamy small one finger pale beige head. Smoked eel on the nose. Taste has also a lot of smoked eel, malty, little bit salty. Low bitterness. Low carbonated. Nice one!

Van het vat bij Klosterbräu. Zwarte kleur, beige kraag. Forse rookgeur, kampvuur, gebrande mout, romig, wat donker fruit, chocolade, goed bitter, meer rook, bittere finish. Lichte tot medium body. Erg lekker.

0.5 l bottle from 'Meibier.de', best before November 2023. Clear, very dark ruby with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky, gently fruity aroma of caramel, smoked ham, raisins and some nuts. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite smoky and slightly fruity taste of caramel, smoked ham, raisins, plums, some nuts and a touch of ash, followed by a short, gently bitter, a bit dry finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice Rauchbier, quite intense, not too sweet but also rather hoppy-bitter.
