Can from Beer52. Pours near black, some ruby red light coming through the bottom, small beige head. Aroma has sweet and roasted malts, blackcurrant, metal, cola, chocolate. Interesting. Taste again is sweet but roasty, chocolate notes come through more in the taste and the fruitiness less although a slight tang, some cola and liquorice, bitter and spicy in the finish. Medium bodied, somewhat dry. Lovely stout.

Can from Beer 52 – drunk at home. Pours almost black with a generous but transient frothy beige head. Roasted malts to the fore in the aroma, and they appear to be masking some sort of fruitiness. Pretty much the same in the mouth, where there is an initial light fruity sensation (raspberries), which is quickly swamped by roasted malts. A little smooth, creamy, sweetness still remains however. After a while the alcoholic strength starts to seep through as well. And there is some hoppiness in the finish. This is pretty decent.

Rocky caramel head stayed on a rich dark brown still body. Malt, roasted & tobacco aroma. Medium bodied, nicely carbonated on the front with a creamy back & clean aft. Roasted, nutty, cereals, berry & burnt tastes with lightly hopped finish. Tasty

Bottle from Sainsburys beer challenge thing. Dark brown, almost black colour with small creamy golden beige head. Aroma is oats, bitter coffee, bit of dark chocolate, all the usual ones you would expect from an imperial stout. Taste is quite bitter, coffee flavour but the finish is mainly bitterness. Perfectly nice, but somehow lacking that extra something that it needs to stand out.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Almost opague. Malt, salt and licorice in the aroma and flavor. Thinnish. Slightly alcoholic. Stout in which you can almost taste the sea.

Nice roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Nice roasty flavour too, plenty of character without becoming too bitter.
