Hallowed is a Belgian inspired beer that’s brewed in England. It is also one of the first beers to be brewed by Robinsons Brewery that uses Belgian yeast. Robinsons haven’t changed the yeast used in their beers since 1942, which makes Hallowed even more special.

Light brown - copper colour. Bubblegum and random phenols on the nose. I'm stunned that a Manchester cask ale producer couldn't get the Belgian yeast right. Sticky, thin, maybe a touch of caramel, with a lot of phenols that really shouldn't be there.

Bottle: Clear copper with a large beige head. Baked apple, yeast, banana aroma. Taste is fairly sweet, a little berry, banana, caramel malt. Gets a little bready and yeasty.....but overall, quite tasty and mild.

Bottle from Morrisons. Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aromas of light banana, dry spice, black pepper and faint toffee. Taste veers towards faintly metallic territory, with the above mentioned flavours still present. Dry finish.

Bottle from Torridon Convenience Stores, Catford. Reddish brown pour with an off-white head. Nose of toffee, nuts, some orchard fruit. Similar action in the flavour, light taste of banana with a whisper of red berries coming through. Malt laden finish. Not bad.

Bottled 330ml (eB)
Clear copper colour, small off-white head. Sweetish, overriped fruits and rubber in the nose. Light-bodied. Thin and watery. Sweetish Belgi yeast, banana, plums and ... rubber. Seems that Robinsons can't handle Belgian yeast so well.

Pours clear copper colour, topped with a big foamy head, just slightly off-white. Very dusty nose, some spices and quite a lot of yeast. Taste follows, yeasty with sharp spices. Medium aftertaste. Lighter body. Nope, not the best one.

Botte at home picked up from Morrisons. A clear nutty amber coloured pour with a frothy magnolia head. Aroma is semi sweet, nutty biscuity malts with bubblegum and apple notes. Little brown sugars on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty malts, little treacle, apple, cakey malts, light spicy yeast notes. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, highish carbonation. Lingering apple cake.
