God duft av kaffe, røykt og lakris. Mørk nesten sort farge. Lite skum langs kant. God smak men for mye preget av røuksmak.

0.5l bottle as Sundvollen Porter. Oh, this one is really deep deep brown and oily in the pour and it has a really nice big lasting ashy-chocolate almost creamy top. Looks as good as they come. And on the nose this is really heavy roasted, mountains of rich chocolate, there are woody vanilla beans and coconut tones here as well and I also get a subtle hint of acidity. Probably from the burned malts. Anyhow, it smells really nice this one. It has a really comfortable small prickling carbonation level that prickles all the way down my throat, and the mouthfeel is quite rich and almost chewy. In the taste I get tons of bitter and sweet chocolate malts, it's quite roasted as well and the coffee shines through in the finish. Almost a bit milky in the taste actually, and I guess it can bear recemblence of a strange offspring of chocolate milk, stout and coffee. Really tasty like in lot's of flavor, but also like in I really like the flavors. Amazing that they have managed to create such a rich and full-bodied beer with only 6.5% alcohol. It actually also has a hint of smoke blended in with all that chocolate-coffee in the lingering aftertaste. Great stuff again from the boys from Drammen. I'm stocking up on this one! 19.09.2012


0.5l bottle from #527. Not every day you get to sample a new one from Haandbryggeriet, and considering all the trouble and hard work I spent on the pre 2012 version, I'm quite excited to try this one. It pours a deep dark brown body with a small fading and light islandy bubbly chocolate top. The nose is filled with caramelly malts, some dry chocolate, some earth, a little bit of roastiness and some gymnastic hall. Smells quite interesting and unique, but definitely within the non-extreme category. It has a nice average carbonation level and a smooth oily mouthfeel. Nice flavors. A bit more punch here than in the aroma, with chocolate malts, a soft roastiness. It's well hopped indeed, and I also get traces of something mildly smoked and a flavor I choose to call "wild". Not like in directly sour, but in that typical Haandbryggeriet yeast-profile often found in their dark beers. Quite, no make that really smooth drinking this, and most definitely highly enjoyable. Highly recommended by a little boy that founds this brewery quite much. 30.11.2012

500ml bottle, batch 527, at Vertshuset Skarven, shared with Elisabeth and Stefan. Fair tan-coloured head over a near, coal black body. Aroma of dry liquorice and coffee. Ashy dark malty taste providing notes of coffee grounds and grain leading to a roasted bittersweet finish. Smooth and dry in the mouth. Likable (Tromsø, 20.04.2013).

Bottle 500ml. [ As Haandbryggeriet Sundvolden Porter ].Clear dark brown colour with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, strong coffee. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, malt bitter, dark roasted, dry, hard roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130216]

Bottle, as Sundvolden Porter. It pours an unclear, brown body and a minimal sized beige head. The aroma has a lot of licorice, with roasted malts, coffee and some hoppy resins. Chocolate, roasted malts and licorice in the flavor, finishing with roasted malts kind of bitterness. Smooth on the palate, quite dry. A pleasant and tasteful one, would like to have it again. Bottle, as Sundvolden Porter. It pours a dense, finger-thick beige head over an almost black body. Coffee dominates the aroma, blended by some chocolate and piney hops. Soft on the palate, with a nice carbonation level. Roaste malts, chocolate, coffee and both hoppy and roasted bitteness in the flavor. Some faintly sourish notes, just like in a cup of coffee. Lasting finish. A pleasant and tasteful beer I could easily have a few of. 130216
