500ml bottle from Tesco - Deep red-tinged black body, thin beige head. Nose is roasted malts, bit of toast, bit of smoke. Taste is sharp up front, malty, few hops, lots of toasted notes. Body a bit watery. Can’t believe I can’t rated this before!

Bottle. Nose is lactose, smoke, sweet malt. Taste earth, smoke, malt slight sour. Short sweet malt finish. It’s the best beer you can usually get from a bad place. Amazed I’d not rated it

Pours dark brown from the bottle. The head is tan and foamy. A sticky lacing clings to the glass. The aroma is very subdued with hints of smoke and roasted malt. Taste is very mildly bitter with touches of dark chocolate and licorice. The flavors feel lost against a watery palate. Finish is smokey but otherwise short and uneventful. I drank a fair bit of this twenty years ago and liked it, but I guess tastes change. Now it just seems boring.
