Dark Side is an impressive and seriously smooth stout, brewed with flair and diligence using a blend of dark roasted malts and an old-fashioned (and rather famous) English hop called Fuggles. Dark Side contains wheat and barley malt.

Bottle courtesy of Mike. Pours almost black with a short-lasting tan head. Mild aroma of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Dry, some bitterness to finish. Soft carbonation. Rather thin but quite smooth, pretty good as lower strength stouts go.

500ml bottle poured into an Abbot ale glass tankard two days after it’s BBD on 14 Jun 2013. Deep, deep dark brown, maybe even black: tanned head. Roasted malty nose: I got coffee and dark chocolate notes from the aromas, rich ground coffee in fact. Smooth and almost creamy in the mouthfeel, the malts that rule the taste again give off chocolate and coffee flavours. Fairly sweet, which I like: all round a good beer for my taste buds.

500ml bottle from Kilpis. Shared@XXIX Rating Session 03.06.13. Dark mahogany body with small head, that diminishes and leaves a filmy layer. Aroma: toffee, roasted coffee, caramel, leaf and licourice, with notes of plum and prune. Taste: roasted coffe, caramel and anise. Soft carbonation, a bit flat for my taste and a bit thin, but then again full for it’s strenght. I’d rather drink this in fall, rather than in summer.
