New Zealand grows more boysenberries than anywhere else, thanks to people like Glen. The fruit from his farm gives this beer its maroon hue and tart berry flavour, complementing the clean, refreshing acidity that comes from its kettle-souring at our brewery, with the help of a few million Lactobacillus bacteria.

440ml can from Monster and Beer, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a slightly hazy dark red colour with a short-lived, fizzy, off-white head and lots of floating debris. The aroma is boysenberries and yeast. The flavour is moderate to light sour, with a light yeast, acidic, light vanilla, light tart, boysenberry palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not the most complex beer I’ve ever had but at least it was refreshing.

Has a deep red body, semi-foggy, and modest pink foam on top. The aroma is funky and fresh boysenberry, sweet yet also slightly bitter. Flavour is plenty of berry sweetness with bitter notes, nothing else coming through nor implied. Not too sour either. Could be brighter, adequate as it is but still a mile away from greatness.

(On tap) Clear deep ruby red with pink head. Aroma of berries, especially raspberries. Great palate - soft, mouthfilling and bright. Taste is sour and boysenberry and raspberry with a very subtle yogurt note in the back. Very nice.

On tap at Smiths. Pours deep clear red with a dark pink head. Boysenberry, raspberry, a jammy sweetness, a citrus acidity. Lovely effervescence. Good.
