Darker copper with a bit of foam. Very soft aroma of hops. Flavour is strong oily hops and a bit of grain. Oily mouthfeel and full but also well balanced. Decent IPA.

At the source: pours orange gold with white head. Aroma is citrus, hers and hints of pine. Kind of bitter. Old school west coast. Fruity and herbal.

Dark amber, with a medium head. On the nose, a mix of brighter orange and pear notes with a more earthy, c-hop underpinning. It’s the same on the palate...a fair bit of bright orange, some orchard fruits, but also the piney, more resiny old school centennial (or whatever it is) character. Quite bitter. The malts are as you’d expect given the colour - some light crystal malt, more crackery, ryvita sort of character. To me, that really does push the envelope of acceptability on chewiness - that envelope has changed a lot in the past few years. This would have been an eye-opener in 2008, but today it’s kind of like, "why don’t they just brighten it up a bit, lighten those malts and switch up the c hops for something fruitier."

Draught at the brewery
Nice and bright golden color, clean, unfortunately the head is not persistent. Interestingly for an IPA, I get more malt than hop in the aroma, some nice bready and biscuity malt (not sticky caramel), followed by a mild but pleasant resiny and animal hop. The mouthfeel is dry, not weak; it presents nice biscuity malts, followed by very resiny hops, lightly fruity.
I prefer some more fruitiness in my IPAs, but everything falls in the right place with this powerful and well composed brew. I’m getting an appreciation similar to the first Fat Tugs I drank.
Excellent. Very clean. I’d like to see this one more available.

On tap at Doan's, pours a crystal clear bright golden with a small white head. Aroma is bursting with piney hops, with a little resin and a bit sweetness, either from the malts or hop oils. Flavour is super piney and rather dry, with a rather woody quality. Bone dry without any astringency or residual sweetness. Despite not being anything unique, it's really made and caters to my taste of dry piney IPAs.
