Tap at Popeye. Clear light amber colour, little head. Aroma is lightly hoppy, bit of grain. Taste is nicely bitter, light citrus hints, slightly spicy maltiness. Very easy drinking. Solid.

Shiga Kogen Pale Ale 5.5% A slightly opaque orange gold with a fairly thick off-white head. The aroma is a hop bouquet that features pine and very light citrus. The taste is bitter, ascerbic pine, some malt sweetness and layers of pine. A classic style APA but a little too bitter for me. I probably loved it the first time I tried it a decade or so ago... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Takumi. Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, some light tropical fruit, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, dry, light resin, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Poured into a taster showing barely translucent amber, no head, and light filtration. The nose shows roasted corn and fried seafood. Two bottles in row, I’m wondering is my batch off. The palate is light bodied and lightly carbonated. Flavors of light tartness and not much else. Light malty finish and barely any bitterness.

Re-rate: Tap at Tsuki To Taiyo. Very mild aromas of fruit. Body is a tad heavy with more fruit and very little hop character. Slight bitter finish. Well-balanced but fairly boring. Tap at CBM Jimbocho. Served in an English pint glass. Golden amber color with a nice off-white soapy head. Fruit forward aromas present. Apricot, peach, cantaloup with hints of citrus on the nose. Great malty balance and fruit flavors on the palate. Creamy mouthfeel with fruit basket flavors hanging on until the finish. Nice dry and fruity finish. Very well-balanced. --- Beer merged from original tick of Shiga Kogen Pale Ale on 17 Aug 2015 at 23:08 - Score: 7

This was the 2008 "Fresh hop" version with aroma hops that they grew themselves added. Bottle from Yamaoka. Dark copper with almost no head. Fruity, very hoppy aroma with lots of citrus, some pepper, caramel. Fruity, very hoppy flavor. Caramel in the back ground. Much more hop aroma than the regular version, and on the whole, that much nicer. A good PA made better.

Bottled. Somewhere between pale amber and deep golden, small head. Light citric hoppy nose. Dry and light bodied with fragile malt character half covered in a thin blanket of grapefruity hops. Crisp and drinkable, but just too careful and painted in too thin layers of flavour.

Clear orange with nearly no head. Hoppy aroma, earth, pine, some citrus, along with some sweet malt. Flavor is very earth, grass oriented. Some pine, caramel malts. The earth/grass is overpowering. Smooth, full bodied. If the grass was toned down I would have enjoyed this more, as it is it’s a decent pale ale.
