Draught at the brewpub
Golden color, hazy. Clean beer, the malts are gently toasty, it has the light residual sweetness of a Jenlain, and expectedly not much hop character; the mild bitterness and light alcohol perception balance the malt.
Pleasant, although not exciting.

Has a soft lager aroma. Body is light copper with a tiny bit of head. Flavour is fruity fusel hints with some hop notes. Kind of cloying at the end. I originally thought the fusel hints were cherry as I had the cherry wheat right beside it - but nope, that’s fusel. Also, this drink has nothing in common with bière de gardes of old and just tastes more like malt liquor, so I think this one is a big miss but not absolutely awful.

On tap at Yaletown, pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma is subtle, with some toasted oak and light farmhouse notes. Flavour brings out farmhouse notes, sweet cereal malts and a light oaky aged character. Not an authentic Biere de Garde by any means - too much sweetness and lacking in that aged quality. Still not bad though.
