bottle thanks to Eric, pours brown with a medium tan head, lots of lacing. Aroma is tart cherry, oak, horse blanket. Flavor is nice and sweet/tart cherries, lots of oak and vanilla presence, ends with mild sourness. 12oz bottle @Jimmack Invitational thanks dand645–pours a tan head that laces and copper color. Aroma is tart, yeast, nut, medium malt. Taste is medium fruity-cherry/peach, tart, yeast, nut, medium malt, slight spice.

Bottle at Bodega Brew Pub in La Crosse. Pours a reddish-amber color with a medium frothy white head that diminishes slowly. Patrchy rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tart fruit, earth and vanilla. Medium body with flavors of moderately sour fruit, malt, earth and a bit of oak. The finish is dark cherries with a lingering tart aftertaste. Good brew overall.

12oz bottle, though I was lucky enough to try it on tap a few times when it first came out as well. Pours a glowing brown red color, with a big, soapy beige head. Tart, funky, barnyard cherry aroma, quite nice. Cherry vinegar, some creamy lactic undercurrents as well. Sour, but retains a nice drinkability. Tarter than I had remembered, perhaps the Brett is still at work. A masterpiece, this beer is phenomenal.

I picked this up while visiting the New Glarus brewery, enjoyed while watching opening night of the 2010 NFL season. I didn’t know what to expect out of this one. Aroma wise, the vanilla is very prevalent along with a hint of cherries and sour notes with smoke, unlike anything I’ve ever smelled. Appearance just looks rich, like a cherry amber with a pronounced head. Taste really threw me off. This is some sour stuff, and I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t think it would be a sour ale upon aroma and appearance. After a couple of sips, the smokiness really becomes known, along with some dark fruits. Carbonation is actually more than any other sour I’ve tried, and the mouthfeel at first really sucks any moisture from your cheeks, it’s like you have to drink this without letting it get into your cheeks to really appreciate it. This really is unlike anything I’ve ever tried, and while I’m impressed I’m not sure if I’m really a fan of it or not. Definitely a truly unique brew, should really be tried by anyone out there.
After getting towards the end of this one, I find my appreciation for it growing with every sip and I’ve got to increase my rating. The warmer it gets, the more the cherries become pronounced.

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar - thank you sir! Beautiful copperish brown color, large beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of cherryscotch, if there is such a thing - sort of a silky brandied cherry candy. Taste is sweet and sour cherry with hints of subtle chocolate. Bottle pours a clear tawny redish brown with just a ring of fine white skin around the edge of the snifter. Aroma is an intoxicating mix of tart cherries, tootsie rolls, brown sugar and a touch of platsticy band-aid. Flavors is a bit of a switch. bottle pours light amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is sour apple and vinegar. Flavor is nice and tart with lemon juice and apple peel ending with light barrel notes.

12 ounce bottle shared by guyinchicago at the RBSG Grand Tasting. Thanks! It’s cool to find another New Glarus beer. Pours a clear copper color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Spicy aroma... almost like pie spices. Also some fruity notes including strawberry, rhubarb and plum. The taste is tart fruits including cherries and berries, and other tart fruity notes. Medium bodied.

12oz bottle pours a slightly rosy, copper amber with a frothy white head. Aroma is really big on raw, toasted oak, vanilla, wood chips, cherry, a little smoke, a little booze. Flavor is sweet, cherries, vanilla, light wood, malts, sugar, a little yeast, a little peach. The flavor doesn’t have nearly as much oak as the nose would lead you to believe. The finish is lightly watery and a touch thin. I’d like to see them bump the flavor on this a touch. This beer is really close to being really excellent, needs a touch more flavor but the nose is very unique.
