Sweet, vanilla and coffee aroma. Tastes similar with vanilla, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Malty and quite smooth.

Cask. Sheffield Tap. Clear, dark ruby red. Bubbly, lasting, pale tan head. Nose has light roast malts. Some coffee. Some lactose. Taste is light, milky sweet, turning mild, roast malt bitter. Light body, verging on thin. More milky sweetness on the finish, with a light bitter close. Ok.

Cask at The Greyfriar, Readinf. Brown-black with a thick off- white head. Odd grassy notes mixed in with roasty malts in the aroma- really wasn’t convinced by the smell on this one actually. Flavourwise it’s alright though- smooth milk chocolate with light vanilla and just a hint of roastiness. Very smooth- almost too smooth in fact, lacks any real edge or distinctiveness. Possibly my expectations were too high what with it being Thornbridge, but it wasn’t as good as I hoped. Still pleasant enough though.

Cask at the craft beer co. Aroma is woody roast, creamy vanilla, choc, tangy choc. Dark reddy brown coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Flavour is composed of woody toasty, roast, vanilla. Palate is milky, low carbonation. OK. Weird varnish tamg in the finish.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Nearly black with a small creamy, slightly off-white head. Not a very stated stout, but it’s thinnish taste may account for this, as well as its fairly easy drinking texture for 5%. There’s hardly any roasted malt in this and its sweetness is low.

Cask at the hanging bat. Pours dark brown, thick, lingering tan head. Aromas of vanilla and coffee. Taste is more cold coffee and charcoal. Vanilla doesn’t carry through so well. Nice creamy texture though.

On keg. Appearance - black with a red hue. Nice head. Nose - roast and dark chocolate. Struggling to find the vanilla. Taste - perhaps a faint vanilla note since I’m really searching for it. Again dark chocolate. Palate - medium bodied at most with a creamy texture and a dry finish. Overall - good beer but not great by Thornbridge standards.

Cask at the Euston Tap. It pours darkest brown with a medium beige head. The nose is soft roast, toast, sweet vanilla, cream and milk chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, peppery, cocoa, mild acidity and coffee, but not much vanilla. Dry-bitter finish. Good deal of bitterness about it. Medium body and fine carbonation. Solid.
