Bottle: Poured a clear light amber color bock with a large frothy off-white head with great retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of bitter hops is dominating with some light pine notes also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by pine and bitter notes from the hops and a light caramel malt presence with limited sweetness level. Body is lighter then expected with great carbonation. While this is a nice beer it has absolutely nothing to do with a weizenbock and no characteristic usually associated with the style can be detected. It is more akin to a nice hoppy amber ale.

Batch 1.01. Amber with a large beige head. Aroma has faint wheat and caramel but is mainly a melange of hops with citrus to the fore. There are also floral and spice notes. Citrus hop bitterness is prominent again in the taste, but wheat sourness is not overwhelmed. After a few sips the caramel creeps back too. The mouthfeel is on the light side for a Weizen Bock, but it’s got some bready texture plus some caramel and noticeable alcohol. Spicy finish is presumably hops rather than wheaty esters. This collaboration seems like a contest to see how like a US-style IPA you can make a Weizen Bock without completely breaking it. There seems to be a bit of that sort of thing about across a whole bunch of great traditions and I think it’s a bad thing. But I liked this anyway.

Bottled (Alvinne shop, bottled 01/2010, bottle #224)
Dark hazy nut brown color, steady average beige head, lace. Strong aroma of alcohol, banana, hops, yeast and candy sugar. Medium to full bodied. Suprisingly flavor is not as demanding as aroma: oak/resin, American hops, some dark malts, even fruity and vegetably notes. Strange weizen bock. Not really alcoholic, aftertaste has odd hints of licorice and Jågermeister. I wonder what has been an idea of this recipe, what was the point?

Huge beige head. Deep red body with strong carbonation. Spicy citric aroma with mealy peppery floral notes. Dry-sweet wheaty raisiny malty papery taste with roasty mealy notes. Cool US-style maltiness with a wheaty tinge. Mid-bodied. Mealy dusty mouthfeel. Dry roasty wheaty mealy aftertaste with chocolatey peppery notes. Nice, lovely interesting malt profile, but a bit dominated by flour/dust in the taste. Fills out once the dregs are added. (0.33l bottle at Olympen, Oslo.)

The bottle looks good, as well as the beer in the glass. Dark orange-brown. Starts strong, but not alcoholic, yeasty, bitter background. Spicy like christmas-spices, quite sourish. Also nicely fruity with lemon notes. Sour notes dominate the finish, well balanced, great beer!

330mL bottle, pours brown with a substantial off-white head. Aroma of roasted cereal malts, wood, wheat and caramel. Flavour begins with floral hops, followed by sweet caramel / toffee, and finishes again with the hops. Didn't really taste like a weizen bock to me; whatever the style, it's most excellent.
