Technically a contradiction in terms, a Black India Pale Ale, but bear with us it’s worth it. Brewed with true caramel malts from Germany the beer has hints of vanilla and caramel followed by a citrus finish from the hops

A little harsh but descent use of malt. Not ott roasty. Needs a lot more hops but I think this bottle is old. It also needs more ABV for the style. A nice effort but nowt special.

Cask at the Thirty-Nine Steps - Broadstairs. Pours clear, deep brown with a bubbly, tan head. Light roast in the nose, toasted toffee and pine. Medium sweet flavour with grainy toast, orange rind, oily pine, light grass. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately harsh bitterness in the finish, with some earth, toasted grains, more orange rind. So so overall.

Bottle from Leamington wines. And now at 6.5% abv. Almost black colour, foamy tan head. Aroma is mostly roasted malt taste is too. Now very hoppy, and a touch thin.
