Bought this bottle in July 2011 @ Nikki’s Liquors in Providence, RI, forgotten about it until today going over my aged bottles in my basement. Tan head, some mild lace in a snifter. Medium to a nearly full body. The aroma is sweet and very roasted with notes of alcohol, wood, and dark chocolate. Flavor mirrors the nose with some liquor flavors. Some coffee bitterness and a dry finish. Overall, well-made stout. And nearly as good as the Imperial version from this brewery.

As Thorups Herrebryg Stout, at Thorups Kælder, Århus
Black color; generous creamy head. The aroma mixes heavily roasted malts and evident liquorice, lightly creamy and buttery. Correct body strength; mild roasted malt flavor, dryish, with strong liquorice; correct bitterness too, but in the final the liquorice is even stronger.
It plays with elements that I don’t fancy, so I’m not overly excited, nevertheless is correctly brewed.

0.5l bottle. This stout has a dark brown near black body with a large lasting light brown creamy head. Aroma is nice and mildly roasted with notes of chocolate and dark coffee. Also hints of salty licorice and dark caramel, combined with sweet dark fruits. Quite nice aroma! Body is a first a bit thin, but it kinda expands and gets almost creamy after a while in the mouth. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Good roasted flavors, dark roasted malts, a nice coffee ending and a sticky caramel aftertaste - and texture. Quite alright, no wait, quite good this stout!

Opaque black stout, chocolate colured head. Smooth palate. Rich malt and lactose chocolate sweetness. Balanced by a little roast malt. Good standard stout.

100ml from a bottle at CBF 10. Dark body with ruby highlights. Tan coloured head. Sweet, earthy malts to the nose. Liquorice and toffee malts in flavour, slightly roasted, and notes of coffee. Almost ashy dryness in the mouth. Tasty and well balanced stout (Tap 1 Carlsberg, RateBeer room 06.05.2010).

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black beer with a nice beige head. Aroma is very milky, almost like butterscotch/toffee with deep roasted malts. Flavour is creamy toffee, deep roasted malts, a hint of chocolate. Earth and salt in the light bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. I love it!
