This traditionally styled Porter has complex malt characteristics balanced with a mild hop profile. Scottish smoked and peated malts lend added complexity and a mild smokey flavor.

Bottle shared by Jan, cheers! Creamy, pale yellowish beige, lacing head over a very dark burgundy hued beer, near blackish in appearance. Aroma of espresso, cocoa, subtle milk chocolate, cappuccino, melting butter, toffee, dried banana, fig, date and some ’haemoglobin’ iron. Dried fruit sweetishness in the mouth, well rounded and pleasant with hints of raisin and fig surrounded by basic sourishness, medium carbo, agreeably ’granular’ and powdery mouthfeel, lightly oily caramelly and chocolatey malt body with toasted bitterishness but only softly so, lightly spicy hops in the end, drying but the bittersweet chocolatey malts get the last word. Classic but very nice example of American porter, not too far removed from e.g. Sierra Nevada’s or Anchor’s interpretations of the style and in that sense perhaps looking backwards, but there is nothing wrong with that, of course.

Pours a cloudy dark brown with a thin light brown head. Slightly smokey baker’s chocolate smell, similar flavor. Well-balanced bittersweetness. Porters are tough I think, this one’s good though.

Bottle. Nearly black with a modest light tan head. Medium roasty aroma with some nuts and licorice. Medium bodied. Sweetish and malty with firmish roasted flavours and a dry, moderately bitter and slightly smokey finish. Straightforward and satisfying.
