Indian Red Lager

5/VIII/20 - 33cl can from the brewer, shared @ home, BB: n/a, canned: 8/VI/20 (2020-727) Thanks to Jorre for the can!

Pretty clear deep orange to amber red beer, small creamy dense bit irregular yellowish head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: malty, some caramel, slightly floral, very little smell actually, some grains, bit yeasty, hint of banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit malty, grains, some caramel, pretty bitter, bit sweet, resinous bitterness. Aftertaste: very bitter, bit medicinal, caramel notes, malty, grains, slightly sweet, not very aromatic. Was expecting way more from this beer...

India pale lager (or indeed, as the brewer calls it, “bottom-fermented IPA”) hopped with Columbus, Citra and Mosaic, available from cans since last week; the newest beer from a small company primarily dedicated to the production of mead. Can shared by the brewer himself, cheers Jorre! Thick and frothy, cobweb-lacing, egg-white, stable head on a misty peach blonde beer with deep and beautiful orange glow. Aroma of fresh orange zest, mandarin peel, lightly toasted bread, pine nuts, dried apricot, pink peppercorns, bitter honey. Quite some fruitiness at first – from the hops, but at first glance one would wonder if this is actually a lager – with restrainedly sweetish impressions of dried peach, apple peel and mandarin, medium carbonated with a supple, smooth, bit oily body; lovely peanutty and lightly toasted bread-like maltiness, some minerally accents lingering, bending towards a very aromatic, quenching finish teeming with retronasal orange zest, mandarin, pink grapefruit and a dash of toasted onion, paired with a long-lasting grapefruity bitterness. Nice, clean, to the point and refreshing (like Mederie’s other beers, I hasten to add) – this is a beer I could drink for hours on end. Delivers exactly what it promises, and more.
