English Maris Otter malted barley, dark malts and a medley of English and American hops produce aromas of dark chocolate, treacle sweet flavours, roasted bitterness, a surprising fruitiness and a long dry finish.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask. Clear deep red - amber beer, big tan head. Palate is smooth and dry. Modest carbonation. Strong but dry darkish malts. Powdery dark chocolate and a touch of coffee. Tangy dark fruits underneath including an unwelcome apple tone. More dark chocolate before the very dry finish. Rich tasting beer but over dry and a little chewy.

Cask, handpump at The Grove, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Sat 15th February 2014. Sounds a silly thing to say but the nose is very beery as oppossed to being roasty, coffee or chocolatey. Bitter and roasty in mouth with a bitter and slight tangy milkiness almost a little coffee and chocolate yoghurt maybe. Standing room only here so tricky to rate, suffice to say its v.good. Sample from a cask at ACAT 2014. Pours black, with a small, beige, bubbly head. The aroma is bittersweet chocolate, chalk, and some earthiness. Sweet and malty, with a strong bitterness, and a little funkiness in the finish. Medium to heavy body, astringent, with a long, bitter aftertaste. Overall, this is a weak, mediocre stout.

Cask at the hanging bat. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aromas of red fruit, liquorice, dark sugar. Taste brings a boozy hit. Enjoyable enough.
