This particular style of “quaffing ale” derived its name from the price that was charged in the 18th century. Inflation may have changed the price but not the beer. A light balance of hop and malt with a long dry finish make this a perfect choice for a long session.

Amber color, creamy head. Nice aroma of caramel, with some toffee and cakes, similar to the ESB. Smooth mouthfeel, lean body, with pleasant caramel flavor and a hint of cookies; ordinary bitterness; the lower gravity is evident in the final, when it gets weaker. Not bad.

Tap. No nose. Hazy golden, low egshell cream. Straw maltyness, light fruit balanced with grassy and light flowery hops. Light yet chewy body. All in all a light package, easy to drink and enjoy.
