Anchor Saison is a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of a locally cultured saison-style yeast. And, for this release, we chose three California ingredients—lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger—whose synergy adds a tangy crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian saison.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus, Judyvv and Joes. Clear orange golden color, medium sized off-white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, yeast, slightly herbal, a bit sweet. Weird. Is it just me? Average body, fizzy carbonation.

On tap @ Beer Temple, sample size glass. Light copper color, as good as clear. White to off-white head, firm, with reasonable retention. Aroma’s of sour fruit and caramel malts. More caramel retronasal, along with some sweet fruit (apricot notably). Flavor is light bitter with some fruity acidity. Medium bodied. Moderate bitter finish.

Amber colour. Aroma and flavour are both dominated by the spices. Most notably ginger and clove. Lacks balance. Poor, almost incomprehensible.
