Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly oak forward with some decent malt notes as well. Oak has a definite fresh character to it like it has only been lightly treated. Moderate caramel notes with some toffee and toasted bread character as well. Light alcohol spice and hints of chocolate. Pours a very dark brown with a medium sized, medium thick to slightly thin, dark tan head that shows decent retention as it recedes somewhat quickly to the edges where it lingers for a bit. Light lacing and medium long legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with lots of malt character and a bit less oak than in the aroma. Lots of wheat, caramel, toffee and toasted bread. Lighter molasses and treacle with hints of chocolate. Medium bitterness with light alcohol spice. Oak notes are a bit more subdued by the malt than in the aroma but are still very much present. Oak has a fresh character to it and is full of tannins. Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice experiment, but by itself the beer isn't super great. I prefer the oak in my beers to be a bit more subdued. The malt profile of the wheatwine is pretty nice though.
