「気まぐれ」シリーズは、皆さんが愛してやまない“ホップ”に焦点を当てて造っています。レシピはその時々の気分や季節感に合わせて、手元にあるホップを使って決めるので、季節や年度ごとに変更しています。そして秋の気まぐれは、毎年モルトにも活躍してもらうレシピ設計をしています。 夏の長く暑い日から、涼やかな夜を運んでくれる秋へと移りゆく季節。クリスタルモルトの芳醇な風味を欲してくる季節です。淡色から美しい赤への色合いの変化は、まさに色づき始めた京都のよう。今年の秋の気まぐれも、豊かな麦芽の風味とキリっとした柑橘系の香りのバランスが取れた、味わいの詰まったIPAです。 ミディアムクリスタルモルトとライ麦クリスタルモルトの２種類を組み合わせると、深みのある魅力的なダークフルーツとキャラメルの様な風味とアロマが生み出され、しっかりとしたボディと6.5％のアルコールはさらに風味を豊かにしてくれています。Columbus、Idaho7、Centennialのホップを組み合わせることで、樹脂っぽさを含んだ柑橘のアロマが生まれ、モルトのフルーティーな特徴が際立つ仕上がりとなっています。これはきっと今年の秋を鮮やかに彩るビールになることでしょう！

Each year, the Kimagure series puts one of beer’s most loved ingredients front and center: hops. While the recipes change with each season and between each year, this is usually our way to use what hops we have on hand to fit the mood or season we are brewing in. One season that tends to have a second ingredient share the spotlight each year though is Autumn when specialty malts also take the stage.
Something about the change from long hot summer days to crisp fall evenings makes us crave the rich flavors of crystal malts. Their beautiful red hues also align with the visual changes happening here in Kyoto making it a perfect match for the season. This year is no different, and Aki no Kimagure 2020 is a full out Red IPA balancing both rich malt flavor and sharp citrus aromas.
Combining both medium crystal malts as well as a rye crystal malt creates a deep and inviting dark fruit and caramel like flavor and aroma. They also provide a firm body that, along with a 6.5% ABV, further enhances the rich character of this beer. Combining hop varieties of Columbus, Idaho 7, and Centennial creates a resinous yet citrus focused flavor and aroma that accentuates the fruity characteristics of the malts. Nice stuff. First sip was amazing. Quite malty but juicy citrus hoppiness too.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown, more brown than red actually, with a low to medium head. Lovely hop nose, herbal, leafy, citrus, grapefruit, some dank weed, and tropical fruit to boot. Light caramel, bready malt in the background and not as strong as the color would lead you to expect. Hoppy, in an almost noble way at first, qite herbal, mint, grass, lemon, weed, cherry notes, chocolate and caramel, bread and biscuit. Overall very dry, though. very well attenuated. finish is dry and peppery. I usually really like the autumn version, dark but super hoppy. This year is no different. Good stuff.
