Tap at SF Beer Week Opening Gala. Pours dark brown. Aroma is hot chocolate, burnt, warm, good vanilla, coffee, caramel. Body is heavy, sweet, chocolate, boozy, strong, not overpowered. Long sweet chocolate palate. Very good.

Black with minimal head. Medium roast coffee, sweet caramel malt, chocolate, booze, some earth. Medium body that leans a bit thin. The booze is hot and can overpower other tones especially as it warms up. A very solid offering but I’d like the hot booze reigned in a bit.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is light and fairly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Very tangy dark malts, dry dark chocolate. Tangy dark fruits. Dry finish. Too tangy for me, getting toward mildly sour.

Bottle. Lots of malty complexity, cocoa, chocolate, rich malty body, moderate bitterness. Great one.

Bottle at home. Very dark caramel-brown pour with a tall tan head with decent retention. Notes of roasted malts, lactose, caramelised sugar, smoke, dark cherries and dark chocolate. Some pine hops also present in the aroma and subtly in the taste. Medium body, high carbonation and a roasty bitter-sweet finish.

Sampled from tap at ’Craft & Draft’. Very dark brownish red to black with a dark beige head. Sweetish, roasty-malty aroma of milk chocolate, sweet coffee, hazelnut and some vanilla. Sweetish, slightly roasty-malty taste of milk chocolate, sweet coffee, hazelnut and some vanilla, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!
