Bottle. Dark color, although not completely black. Nice brownish head. Very spicy aroma, ginger, nutmeg, burnt malt and other spices. Unfortunately I must say that the taste was completely dominated by ginger. I am not a big fan of ginger. Not the best beer from Nøgne Ø.

500ml Bottle (Thanks to my lovely girlfriend, Kristiina) - Dark brown with a tan head. Spicy aroma with ginger, cinnamon and chocolate detected. The taste is chocolatey, roasted and spicy and a nice ginger and hoppy balance, with more notes of chocolate and cinnamon.

Courtesy of Blazer06. Pours deep copper – brown with thin off white head. The aroma is full of spices, citrus, some shrubbery, flowers and earthiness. The taste commences with malts moving toward various winter like spices and flowers. I also begin to pick up spicy and earthy hops by about midway. Ends even and satisfying. Nice brew.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Can’t remember who gave it to me, maybe Per, not sure. Thanks anyway to whoever! Dark brown with a medium beige head. Smells like a christmas cake with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, some ginger and other spices and fruits. A rather dry spicy flavor with some caramelly malt and a bitter finish with some hops. Medium-bodied. Decent but too spicy to be really drinkable.

Nice deep brown coloured body with purple and ruby highlights. A smallish tan head tops the beer nicely. Aroma of amazing spices - maple syrup, coriander seed, star anise, allspice, cloves, cardamom, canelle and a little bit of white peppercorn. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour up front with alcohol coming in strong, then fading to a spicey bitterness. The taste mellows out the spices picked up in the nose, but the sweetness still remains. Aftertaste shows some hops, alcohol warmth and a bunch of the spices! Overall, a very nice beer to try - definitely worth trying if you can find it, and the aroma alone will make you happy that you did! I sampled this 50 cL bottle (labeled Peculiar Yule) purchased from West LakeView Liquors in Chicago, Illinois on 15-December-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 13-February-2009.

Pour is a black with a thick tan head. Aroma is very spicy with some anise and cloves. Flavor is again lots of spice with some cloves and and a bit of ginger. A very spicy and tasty brew. Probably the closest beer i have had to Anchor x-mas.
