At the request of the “Foundation Abbey, Town and Region” and the Town of Sint-Truiden, a special abbey beer was brewed on the occasion of the first open abbey days in 2002. What makes Adelardus Dubbel so special, is the use of so-called ‘gruut’. This is a mixture of about 10 different indigenous herbs. Further five types of malts and two types of Belgian hops are used. Adelardus Dubbel is a dark brown high fermentation beer, that is unfiltered, unpasteurized with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Adelardus Dubbel has a full taste with a very soft, spicy nose and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

330ml bottle thanks to a holidaying friend. Pours clear dark brown with a thin cream-coloured head. Aromas of caramel, sweet toffee, raisins. Taste is more of the same. A bit dull to be honest.

Deep mahogany brown colour with a ruby hue, small frothy tan head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, gruut, resinous, fortified wine, bit woody. Taste is light heavy sweet and medium bitter, short to average duration, malty, bit fruity, herbal, resinous sweetbitter finish. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, not your ordinary Dubbel, nice.

Bottle from an unrecorded source. Poured a hazy chestnut brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is a mix of spice and perfume along with nutmeg, nut, chocolate and caramel malts. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. Medium sweet, with low level bitterness. OK...
