Bottle split at L6 tasting, thanks to the Wingmane, 02/03/23. Black with a khaki cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is chocolate, brown sugar melt, maple syrup, coconut shavings. Taste comprises chocolate, spice, roasted tones, Bounty Bar, toffee fudge, nutty tang. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a lick of alcohol. Decent if a touch overly sweet.

330mL bottle, pours jet black with a tiny head. Aroma is full of maple syrup, subdued coconut, and dark dried fruits. Flavour is somewhat tart, with tart dark dried fruits, maple syrup, and a hint of coconut. This seems a bit off given that sourness. But it's more like tart dark berries than full-on infected sourness. Still, this is suboptimal.

Star Wars-themed imperial stout by Emperor (a client brewer specializing in strong stouts), executed at Nerdbrewing in Sweden. Bottling from 2022 apparently, thanks Craftmember for sharing this gem. Open, thinnish, yellow-beige, dot-lacing head on an ink black robe. Aroma of dark chocolate bars, Belgian ‘pralines’, maple syrup (actually used here), toasted coconut (dito), treacle, sirop de Liège, almond, cognac, nougat, Brazil nuts, toffee, cappuccino, vanilla. Dense, sweet onset, quite ‘concentrated’ with many things happening at the same time: candied dates, pear syrup, maple syrup, sweet Brazil nuts – very lightly carbonated with very full, thick, oily body (yet still not too syrupy despite the impressive ABV); a deeply chocolatey core enveloped in ongoing maple syrup sweetness, incoming toasted coconut flavour and suggested aspects of cashew nut, nougat and latté. The coconut effect adds something exotic, but fits very well into the whole, better than in many other coconut-themed stouts I had in the past. Some roasty, coffeeish bitterness and underlying hop bitter notes provide good balance against the sweetness and kicks in right where things are about to become too syrupy; a warming, cognac-like alcohol glow adds booziness – a bit much perhaps, but only in the very end, and a large part of it is absorbed in this lovely, unctuous, thick chocolatey core. A lovely ‘liquid praline’ and one of the best with the name Emperor attached to it that I had so far.

Bottle shared in Canary Wharf - many thanks to Dave. Pours deep black with a foamy, brown topping. Medium to big sweet flavour with some decent roast, ash, scorched earth, cocoa powder, raisins, burnt toffee. Full bodied, lightly oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Hot finish, rounded dark malts, bitter cocoa, old dark fruits, prunes, earth, coffee grounds. Not bad overall.

Proefglas uit fles, dank Simon! Bij In de Wildeman. Zwarte kleur, beige kraag. Soyasaus, pure chocolade, cacao, zoet, ahornsiroop is subtiel aanwezig, net als de kokos, licht gebrand, heerlijk dik en stroperig, degelijk bitter ook nog. Net niet OTT allemaal. Goed.
