Bottle: Deep chestnut-amber coloured, hazy, huge fluffy, but stable beige head; sweet dark-malty to caramelly nose, accompanied by a tinge of roasted malt; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; increasing hoppiness in the robust bitter-caramelly finish, lingering and warming hoppy "tail". A bit unbalanced, but all in all a solid, tasty Bock........

Bottle, 7.5%. Weak aroma, sweet with soft fruits. Cloudy caramel brown colour. Very small head. The flavour is not overpowering, but OK. Some sweet malt, cream balanced by uncompromising bitterness. Dry finish. Good mouthfeel. Could have been a good Doppelbock with some good, sweet maltiness.

(Bottle 30 cl) Courtesy of jbrus. Slightly hazy dark orangey golden with a handsome, beige head. Fruity aroma with roasted malts completely outbalanced by a rather solid bitterness in the finish. 180807

Bottled. Amber colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is malts, salts, hops and some spices. Flavour is salty hops, malts... Reminds a lot of a crappy European Strong Lager, with only some colour added to it, to make it darker. Aftertaste is slightly bockish, sweet alcohol, mixed with malts and slight hops.

(bottle) Slightly hazy amber colour with a mid-sized foamy off-white head. Sweet malty and nutty aroma with floral hops in the background and a touch of liquorice and yeasts. Sweetbitter flavour, medium to light bodied. Light sweet malty initial taste with chestnuts, dry and sweetbitter liquirice-spicy finish, even with a whiff of hops. Another good and quite complex Bock from the Stadsbrouwerij Groningen.

Sampled at Utrechts Bokbierfestival 2002: Cloudy brown color. Malty taste and aroma. Bit sweet sourness added. Malty finish. Decent bock, but Grunn was better from the Stadsbrouwerij Groningen IMO.
