Slightly hazy deep amber coloured body with a muddied and ruby brown glow and a perfectly dense, two centimetre tall tan head - can’t get better looking than this for the style. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, toffee, nuts, apples and some pleasant raisin notes coupled with some yeast scents as well. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with some metallic, mushroomy and nutty flavours and a rather mild finish showing the malt and a touch of sweetness. Aftertaste is slightly more well-rounded with some caramel and toffee sweetness battling out the earthy and nutty malt that encapsulates the beer, all with a pleasant english-style hop character. Overall, a nice altbier with a very earthy malt profile and a pleasant sweetness coupled with a noticeable complexity that lasts! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 01-May-2014 for US$0,99 (yes, under a buck!) sampled at home in Washington on 02-September-2014.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a stange.
The appearance was a decent looking hazy amber to red color with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated within seconds. The lacing was somewhat there and slid for the most part.
The smell was yeasty and malty with a touch of light cocoa inside of a subtle breadiness.
The taste was mainly the same thing.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat subdued and carried a fair rolling smoothness over my tongue.
Overall, pretty good altbier I’d have again.

35,5 cl bottle @ Beer Temple. Aroma is sweetish with American hops, bready malt and toffee. Flavour as American hops, toffee, caramel and hints of bread. Altbier in American way; like American strong ale with some maltiness typical to Altbiers. Sweet, but not in typical way for this style. Would not recognize this as alt, on blind tasting my guess would be American strong ale.

Total Wine, Fairfax 12oz ($2): Pours brownish amber with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts and some of them hops as well as a little bit of fruitiness. Taste is a little sweet with an underlying light bitterness that is a bit dry. Overall, nice, but not all that interesting.

Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines(style 7C). AROMA: predominant malt aroma. almost absent hop aroma and absent esters. APPEARANCE: Orange copper color, clear, ivory persistent and creamy head. TASTE: well balanced flavour between moderate bitterness and complex malt. dry finish. very low esters, no diacetyl. Finishes dry. very low hop flavours. PALATE: medium to light body and very smooth. no astringency. OVERALL: a very well balanced, bitter and malty ale. requires a bit more hop aromas and flavours.
