Bottle from Tomlinson’s Beer Shop, Inverness. Pours a beautiful black colour with creamy tan head leaving great lacing. Roasted malt, chocolate aroma combines with mild liquorice which does not overpower. Medium sweetness, full bodied, slick and slightly sticky texture, soft carbonation I rate this a very good beer.

Bottle on the train from Thurso to Inverness, from Tomlinsons, 20/10/13. Mid black with a big ole tan head that retains well. Nose is liqourice forward, touch rubbery, light smoke, dark malts. Taste comprises smoked malts, more subtle on the liqourice delivery, lgiht cocoa, dark toffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smoked malts and liqourice tang in the finish. Decent Stout.

Scopeys East Croydon tasting - Cheers Paul! Clear very dark brown beer, short lived pale tan head. Dodgy rubbery nose. Light semi dry palate. Rich licorice and dark malt. A little vanilla and mineral. Dry finish. Different!

500ml bottle. Pours black with amber head. Sweet aroma of liquorice and vanilla. Less oily than most stouts, with the liquorice kick shining through with a smoky aftertaste. Very good, if a little sweet.

Bottle from Tomlinsons Beer Shop, Inverness
Black, frothy tan head, good lacing
Aroma of soft sweet rich dark caramel malts, molasses, treacle, smooth, no roast aroma, can’t get any hops
Taste of dark treacle, dark sugars, dark caramel malts, some liquorice, very soft roasted malts, alcohol very well hidden, less complex than Black Gold
Palate - soft carb, medium to full body, very creamy, smooth, dark sugars on palate. Finish as main flavour, liquorice comes through much more in the finish.
Overall - Really smooth tasty stout...I do prefer the Black Gold though
