30 August 2025. At 7de Bier van Olier (Sijsele). Cheers to Anke, mom & dad!
Farmland or pasture, grass, manure, old apples. Sweetish apple, bitter grass. Dry grassy hops, straw, dry bread, wheat. Quite literally a 'Farmhouse Ale'.

Very good, stable, lightly yellow whipped eggwhite head over cold hazed golden beer. Bit soapy nose. Pale malts abundant and an overlapping herbal aroma. Bit sharpish, fiery malts flavour, "hot", suggesting more alcohol than it really has. Again herbal/spicy. Good carbonation, medium bodied. Way too sharp/alcoholic for a saison, for chrissakes.

Multi-grain saison (barley, wheat and rye malt) hopped with hops grown in Beke, a small village in the Meetjesland region; brewed by De Biersmid at Den Tseut. Tasted at Maldegems Bierfestival. Snow white, medium thick, stable and mousy head lacing in shreds over a misty deep golden beer with warm peachy hue. Elegant, bit perfumey nose of orange water, ripe melon, honey, sweetbread, peach, lychee even, banana, soap. Sweet onset, overripe pear, melon and pineapple, medium carbonation, smooth and supple mouthfeel; some minerally side notes accompany a slick honeyish and bit soapy-wheaty maltiness, onwards to a long, bit spicy and elegantly citric-zesty hop bitterness, ending quite rooty even and thus countering the initial sweetness in quite a confident, surprising way. Very elegant, quenching little blonde, nice surprise really – if this is the direction Biersmid is heading for, then we may hear a lot more about this so far quite obscure and local ‘bierfirma’ in the future.
