My 33 cl bottle was acquired from Belgian Happiness, my access to things brewed in Belgium. I am a long time in between sampling any brew from the continent so I have the Teku arrayed for this beer. The pour is a dark gold, darker than expected with a frothy, active head of snow white bubbles. The nose is a curious mix of dark fruit and yellow fruit along with a yeasty background. The taste is likewise difficult to pin down. There is apricots, malt, yeast, a vinous effect, white bread and some sourness. Little of the bourbon barrel that I can detect, unfortunately. I can appreciate different but not what I hoped for.

Bottle shared. Oramgy color, medium sized white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, somewhat fruity, yeasty. Not any bourbon present. Disappointing.

Bourbon barrel aged version of DronkAerts, a strong 'ambrée' by this young brewpub in Wechelderzande, a village in the Antwerp Kempen region. Light gusher, but nothing dramatic. Very thick and foamy, eggshell-white, mousy head on a misty 'dirty' amberish orange blonde beer. Aroma indeed breathing considerable sweet and boozy bourbon, vanilla from the oak wood, impressions of banana bread, clove, soaking wet wood chips, soggy peanuts, eau de vie, ginger, brown rum, ground walnuts, cayenne pepper, dried lavender, cashew nuts, dried peach, dust. Sweet onset with light sourish edge; clear banana ester as well as notes of dried fig, peach and apple, medium carbonated, full and smooth body - but thinned by the bourbon in an early stage. Hard-caramelly, toasted peanutty, cracker-ish maltiness, lingering residual sugars (white candi sugar syrup), herbal, yeasty and - most of all - hot and boozy finish, in which the bittersweet bourbon is very obvious to the point of becoming harsh and astringent. Lots of sweetness remains, along with woody notes and breadiness. Feels a bit 'dirty' and (all too) robust, but admittedly a bold and powerful beer especially for a starting microbrewery; in terms of style, I reckon this could be fit in the 'Belgian style barleywine' category, along with Bush, Stille Nacht, La Divine and the like (strong 'ambrées', in other words). Interesting find, even if it needs finetuning.
