330ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, a touch of treacle and caramel, coffee and liquorice overtones. Taste is chocolately dark malty, minimally spicy, slightlly bitter hoppy, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, some liquorice, treacle, caramel, bitter hoppy counterweight; well hidden alcohol. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally sticky palate. Well balanced, highly drinkable - not much complexity, though.

Dark brown colour, moderate sized creamy beige head; aroma of roasted grains and nuts, some cocoa and coffee; taste is more intensive than the aroma with the same notes and some licorice and spicy aftertaste; not bad at all, though obviously not among the best brews of the category

The imperial stout from this craft brewery in Madrid, tasted from tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Cobweb-lacing, yellowish beige, densely moussy head; blackish robe but still a bit translucent on the edges, burgundy with ruby red tinge. Aroma of liquorish and butterscotch candy, ’Haagse hopjes’, pear syrup, treacle, smoked prunes, Cuban cigars, ’Limburgse vla’, pipe tobacco, dried bladderwort, chocolate, raisins, vague vanilla touch. Sweetish dried fig, raisins and candied banana in the onset, lots of butterscotch and ’hard caramel’ maltiness drenched in a beefy umami influence, touch of black olive; soft carbo, thick and oily mouthfeel, nutty with a toasted and ’black’ chocolatey bitterness to it but not becoming deeply roasted, sweetness remains strong (treacle) but balanced by the toastedness, a peppery hop finish and warming, rum-like alcohol. Very well-made, but I would not call this an imperial stout, for which it lacks a bit of depth, thickness and black roastedness; more a kind of export stout, actually, but a good one at that.

On tap @ Brewery. Black color with beige head, good retention with nice lacework. Aroma is roasty, notes of coffee beans, slightly licorice and ripe black fruits. Flavor with light sweetness at the beginning, roasty, coffee, some ashes and alcoholic notes are present as well. Mild bitterness in the final with roasty mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth on palate.
