28 April 2018, at Domus, Leuven. Shared with Anke.
Pours clear golden with a thin, foamy, white head; little lacing. The aroma contains banana, dough, caramel, honey, spices, maize, some cooked vegetable. It tastes medium fruity sweet, hint of dough, and light to medium spicy bitter. Dry, spicy finish, with a wry jenever-like effect. Medium body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Typical Belgian Strong, I expected more.

On tap at Domus. Hazy golden with a lasting white head. Aroma of grain, marzipan, phenols. Sweet yeasty and phenolic flavour with a touch of alcohol.

From tap at the brewery. Thick, snow white, tightly papery lacing, moussy head slowly dissolving under alcohol influence, hazy warm orange-hued peach blonde with visible fizz. Aroma of banana, bubblegum, canned peaches, soggy white bread, some caramel candy, honey, coriander, jenever, raw potato and quite outspoken DMS (overcooked cauliflower). Sweet with notes of banana, peach and a freshly cut apple-like sweet-sourishness, very sharply (over)carbonated; supple, full mouthfeel. White bready, cereally and lightly caramelly malt sweetness reinforced by honeyish residual white sugar sweetness, in the end bittered by a firm, leafy, peppery hoppiness and quite wry, gin-like booziness; dash of soapy coriander. The honeyish and canned peach-like sweetness lingers beyond this. Your typical sweet Belgian tripel, suffering from DMS, overcarbonation and insufficiently masked alcohol. This oldest of Belgian brewpubs can do better.
