The ordinary blonde in this new Walloon microbrewery’s young range, bottle from Willems. Medium thick, snow white, moussy head, lightly lacing, over a warm, pale orange-tinged ‘old gold’ beer, lightly hazy at first with vivid sparkling, but more misty and peachy with sediment. Aroma of dried apple peel and unripe peach, old dry coriander seed, sweetclover, bread crust, unripe banana, grass, bitter honey, straw. Quite lively and crisp, fruity onset, notes of ripe pear, apricot and light banana, medium carbonation, supple and lightly soapy mouthfeel. Lean bready malt body with a thin layer of residual white candi syrup sweetishness on top, honeyish, the soapiness enhanced by the coriander seed which is strong but inoffensive in this case (to me personally at least), matching quite well with a drying, spicy, floral hop bitter tail – after which bitterness the initial pear and banana sweetness subtly reappears, hightlighted by a touch of warming alcohol. Your classic, coriandered, sweetish Belgian blonde, but with a noble hop bitterness to it which I can appreciate. Nothing highly ambitious here, but technically completely flawless and that deserves credit in my book even if lacking originality.
