Wherryman’s Way IPA is brewed in the American pale ale style, which pays homage to the original strong but light-in-colour English ales that made the journey from Burton-on-Trent to Bombay, with a combination of locally grown Maris Otter pale malt and caramel malt for a deep golden colour with a refreshing dry flavour. Hopped with a combination of Target and Centennial hops and then dry-hopped in the cask with more Centennial and Simcoe hops, the beer is full of a funky citrus hop character like many of its cousins from across the pond.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, grass, spices, and some malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, spices, grass, and malt, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle 66 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a cloudy amber with a rough off-white head. Fresh and citrusy hop aroma - almost perfumy. Medium body. low carbonation, high fruitiness and a solid dose of fresh hops leaving a fairly bitter finish. A serious IPA indeed. Nice. 180311

Bottled (thanks haddonsman!). Slightly hazy orangeish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is quite rich on fruity and floral hops along with some mild caramel malts and wood. Flavour is quite much the same in a rather bitter way.

Now then. This must have been a present from Haddonsman, thanks Simon. It got a bit lost in all the bottles I brought back from GBBF, Hazy dark copper, some bubbles round the edge. Sherbert and earth on the hoppy aroma. Some toffee too. Full in mouth with a good carbonation on the swallow and lots more English earthy big grapefruit hops. Like the way an English IPA should be. Goes rather pleasantly well with pepperoni pizza. One of a few proper English IPAs.

Cask, gravity at Merton Summer Beer Festival, 17-07-10 Another of the big IPAs that we managed to secure this year. Gold in colour with some haziness and a white head. Bitter zesty orange and a little grapefruit on nose, I like it that Glen managed to get Kumquats in there, he seemed hell bent on describing this fruit which also cropped up for him in the Hopshackle experimental beer tasting that we did as well. Taste is fruity but with sweetness sitting below the surface and also keeping the bitterness in check. Very big on the citrus front, bitter oranges and grapefruit again starting to show, alcohol is there but nicely underplayed, really moreish for the abv and a cracking IPA. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
