Amager Rye Porter is the result of fruitful cooperation between the best of Danish and American brewing cultures. It’s base is made of hard roasted malts and 16% rye. It adds a fantastic sweetness, and a titillating spicy edge, which, combined with a subtle and balanced acidity, is reminiscent of rye bread. This is not a beer for the weak, we’re pleased with the outcome and hope you will be too.

Sample at the Aficionado’s "Hidden Gems" beer tasting on 05/24/2013: This brew pours a dark brownish-black color with a medium thick tan head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, vanilla and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and subtle spicy rye. The finish is roast malt and rye. Pretty good overall.

Sample from bottle, CBF 2013. Dark brown colour, almost black with a thin, tan head. Roasted aroma with vanilla, caramel, rye bread, licorice, coffee and grassy hops. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body, oily feel. Finishes long lasting dry and bitter with roasted malts and coffee. An excellent porter!

Aroma is fairly sweet and fruity. The fruit esters are cherry an plum. Malt notes are moderate with some rye and a bit of roast and moderate chocolate. Light caramel note. Pours what looks to be fairly clear. Dark brown in color with ruby highlights on the edges. Thick, light mocha head that steadily recedes leaving a thin film on top and along the edges. Medium lacing. Flavor is similar to the aroma. Rich dark chocolate notes balanced with roast leaving a coffee finish. Some rye notes mid palate becoming more noticeable in the finish. Faint caramel and nuttiness. Less fruit than in the aroma, but still some dark cherry and plum. A hint of tobacco. Low, but present astringency and medium bitterness with no hop flavor. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with a moderate silkiness. Medium low carbonation. Low to medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a surprisingly good beer, especially considering I forgot about this bottle for upwards of a year. It's out of style for a porter in that its too big, but it works with the malt complexity. The alcohol isn't too noticeable in aroma or flavor. The rye adds a nice level of complexity without taking too much from the dark malts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0.5l bottle. This is a clear deep dark brown one with a medium sized quite quickly bubbly and fading - sidesticking dark brown top. On the nose I get burned rye bread, an interesting sweetness, something almost floral and vanilla. Yeah, there is quite a substantial amount of vanilla in this one. Also, a light fruit-punch acidity present here. Interesting all the way, and quite nice indeed. It has a thick, dry and oily mouthfeel with a soft to average carbonation level. The taste has a burned roasty acidity to it with some really fruity yeasty-plum sweetness. There is also chocolate present in this one with lots of vanilla. Some warming alcohol tones presented towards the finish. Quite tasty. Perhaps a bit on the sweet side of the scale, but loads of flavors. 08.12.2012

Bottled. Black colour with a beige head with good lasting. Aroma is toasty, roasty, licorice notes are also present. Flavor has roasted malts and licorice notes,slightly sweet, strong coffee, red fruits and vanilla traces; also ashes hints can be noted. Toasty final with a moderate bitterness and black coffee. hints.

50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika shared by Arve_Christian - thanks! Pours very dark, almost black, with an off-white to beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with lots of dark chocolate, a hint of coffee, dark fruits and some bready notes. Quite sweet and malty with a very nice chocolate flavour. Medium to full body. Some dryness and bitterness in the finish. Very well balanced. Alcohol well integrated. A very nice imperial porter!

Bottle from SED. Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is light somke and burnt malt. Flavour is sweet chocolate, licquorice with a burn malt sweet finish.

Pours mahogany-tinged black into an English pint. Smokey, sweet dark chocolate aromas. Slick with dark chocolate, caramel and espresso upfront. Lasting smoke and earthy bitter finish.
