'Bestefar' is the Norwegian word for Grandfather. In this case, it refers to the father of Father Christmas, or 'Nissefar' as he is known in Norway. Bestefar is the perfect companion for a cold winter night spent contemplatively in front of a fire or for those fire-side moments that are a bit more 'festive'. It is complex, a little bit wild...and it might just be the best by far!

Lots and lots of foam from the bottle, enough to fill two glasses. Aroma reminds me of islay whisky blended with water. It has some smoke and peat. Flavour is stale with ash, wet wood and hints of smoke. Also some house flavour from HB – which is the best part of it. Probably a bad bottle.

Unclear very deark reddish brown with a dark brown head. Aroma is sweet, malty, roasted malt, light smoky and moderate spicy. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish with warming alcohol. 210312

Bottle. Very dark brown/red with small brown head. Aroma is malt, smoke, meat, caramel, chocolate and spices. Flavour is roasted malt, medium sweet, high carbonation, spices, caramel, ginger and a little bitter.

Bottle. Frothy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Dark red amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Dark fruits and slightly smoked. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate and fizzy.

21/01/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Bruna, riflessi mogano, schiuma biancastra sporca, non molto abbondante e poco persistente. Aroma di malto, note di tostato e cioccolato, erbaceo e spezie. In bocca è complessa, calda, suggestiva, ma un po’ troppo complicata. Note di malto, dolce, leggero tostato, spezie, erbaceo, luppoli, leggerissimo affumicato. Corpo medio-pieno, consistenza oleosa, carbonazione soft. Un po’ sgraziata, ma buona. Da sorseggiare davanti al camino.

On tap at Grünerløkka Brygghus. Dark brown, almost black. Roasty aroma with coffee, dried fruits and hints of spices. Full body. Sweet, with a long lasting aftertaste with some bitterness. Very nice beer for the dark and cold months up north.

Picked up bottle at Nikki’s in RI. Pours cola colored with nice thick purplish beige head and great lacing. decent nose of smoke and dark fruits. tastes of plums, smoke, figs, raisins, roasted coffee beans, cocoa powder and earth. great carbonation and chalky finish. very enjoyable sunday afternoon brew

Schokoladenmalziger Antrunk mit sehr leichter Säuerlichkeit, die hervorragend passt und die Malzigkeit ergänzt. Das Bier ist so trotz der Malzlastigkeit erfrischend, ein wenig Anis, Zimt, hefig werdend. Nach und nach wird das Malz leichter, ein leichter Getreidetouch ist vorhanden. Dann wieder schokoladiger, süßlich, vollmundig, unterstützt von mehreren Kräuternoten. 9/12/12/13/9/13
