Imperial Red Ale. SanTan’s rendition of the style involves a big blast of a new specialty hop called Nelson-Sauvin. This hop is named for it’s county of origin’s famously popular Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in Marlbourough , New Zealand. The Nelson- Sauvin hops give an unmistakable aroma of apricots and a slight taste of fresh peaches. This full forward hop character is balanced with a solid caramel malt flavor.
Hints of roast and espresso linger with the staying flavor of the fruity hop.

Poured up on tap at Sun Tan a month or so back with a deep ruby red hued amber body and supporting a full tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some malt roastiness along with a peach and tangerine like fruity mixture. The taste is fairly fruity with near ripe peaches and nectarines and then it picks up a flash of orange wedges before thin layers of resiny hops mix with a mild degree of malt roastiness to round this out nicely into the finish. Pretty tasty stuff and served too darn cold for the style, when will they learn?

consumed during the 2011 RBWGfree glass thanks to the brewery during our tour, pours bright crimson with a medium tan head. Aroma is hops hops and more hops, but very unique and when they told us it was all Nelson Sauvin I was very surprised. The nose was spicy and peppery with pine and light citrus notes. Flavor is caramel malts, peppery phenolic notes with light alcohol noticable in the finish but the hops really dry this beer out. Killer stuff.
