For the 100th anniversary of the brewery in 1989, the steam beer was originally brewed according to the traditional recipes of the Wolfgang Pfeffer, the founder of the brewery. Since then it has been ripening in the old, deep rock cellars.
The fermentation with top-fermenting yeast ran quickly in wooden, open vats at temperatures of 18-20 ° C. This led to a violent, rapid carbonation, which caused large gas bubbles on the "ceiling" (foam above the liquid). These burst from time to time, giving the impression that "the beer is steaming". The name "steam beer" was born!

500ml bottle. Pours dark caramel brown with a large head. Aroma is bread and dried fruits. Taste is very bready, lots of dried fruits. Tasty.

Whole Foods, P st, DC 500ml ($5): Pours a reddish light brown color with a medium thick head. Aroma is sugar/caramel malt. Taste is pretty sweet. There is a little bit of hops at the front. Leaves a kind of bready, sort of sourdough aftertaste that lingers for a second or two. Easy drinking for sure. Kind of tastes a bit like kvas to me.

Bottle from Quack-Duck, dekuji. Clear amber color with huge white head. Malty, fruity (oranges, lemon zest) aroma with hints of caramel. Taste, malty, fruity, sweet apple, caramel, light bitterness in background. Bittersweet finish with notes of caramel. Good beer, please give me one more bottle.
