Ruthless Rye IPA

Shaker pint draft at Martin City Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is mostly clear copper burgundy with a smallish off white head. The aroma is fresh and clean - floral citrus hops and a soft rye. Decent amount of cereal malt present in there as well. The taste is the nose, nice balance between the citrus hope, the rye and the cereal grain malt. The malt has a lot more sweetness than the nose suggested. The rye gives it a nice spiciness, pepper, but not quite that sharp. The palate is light to medium bodied, active full carbonation and a dry, even slightly bitter finish. The finish thins out a bit as well. Nice enough, easy drinking beer.

12oz bottle–pours amber/copper with a retaining light tan head. Aroma is orange/pine, rye/grain. Taste is rye/grain, pine/some orange hops. Interesting. Becomes more medium body by the 2nd ½.

12 oz bottle. Pored copper color in a tulip glass. Huge, soapy, full head with great retention and lace. Nose is mostly grapefruit and some rye earth tones. The flavor starts with spicy rye with a good malt backbone, leading to a citrus / grapefruit toward the back of the sip. Finish is somewhat dry and peppery, some grapefruit rind. A tasty beer and a solid everyday drinker. At $8.79 for a six pack it has a nice value for the quality.

Purchased a 6-pack of this at the Lebanon Co-Op for around $9. Poured into a Harpoon 100 Barrel Series glass at 55 Degrees F. A - Five finger head that’s full of tight semi-creamy bubbles that are a deep tan color. The beer itself resembles burnt wood but still very easy to see straight through the brew. S - I smelled Rye as soon as I poured it at 2 feet away from my nose. The Sierra Nevada Yeast is really apparent with it’s typical hop and bread notes with some slight floral tones. The rye is strong and there’s some additional nutty smell. T - The really strong rye taste dominates this beer. The taste is a standard IPA with an earthy / piney taste. The rye dominates completely M - Solid carbonation while swishing it around. Not overwhelming though. It’s a light to medium bodied beer. O - I wouldn’t have this again. The IBU and Rye is just too intense but it has turned me on to more rye beers which is good but less rye would be better. Also, I’m slowly tiring of Sierra Nevada’s yeast. It’s just too old and tired now.

Harris Teeter, DC sixer ($8): Pours a reddish color with a really excellent off-white head. Aroma is light hops, some rye, and mostly pine. Taste is hoppy, but not hopslaughter. Beer has a good balance and a mouthfeel that feels almost crisp. Minimal aftertaste, but enough to relish it after the sip. Is this a complex beer? No, not really. Do I enjoy drinking it? Yeah. Will I drink the whole sixer tonight? Yes, yes I will.

I am not a huge rye beer fan but this one had a pleasant complexity. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was dry and spicy with notes of pepper, rye and was a little bit roasty followed by rough piney hops. The flavor was sweet malts, pine, grapefruit, honey, rye, pepper and almost yeast. The finish was long and sweet with lingering pine, grapefruit and pepper. Medium body. Interesting.

12 oz bottle. Nice atmospheric-looking label. Pours hazy orange-brown with a medium beige head with decent retention. Aroma is peachy, grapefruit, rye. Taste is bittersweet and a bit spicy; has a lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel is creamy, carbonation is average. This is a really nice IPA.

Enjoyed 6 of these during super bowl party. pours dark amber brown very pretty. aroma of sweet caramel and rye. tastes of orange citrus, caramel, lots of rye, and bready. its kinda thick on palate but pretty cool brew
