We brewed a coffee stout as part of a journey. A journey towards perfection, towards utopia. A Grand canvas colored with da Matteo coffee. For any cuppy needs. We let som of that beer rest on freshly emptied Cognac barrels to enrich it even further. You know, for any avecy needs. Sipper!
The short story is that Coffee is one of two inaugural stouts that was first brewed for us at Dugges under the Twelve Percent beer project in the USA. We’ve done a bunch of coffee stouts so it just seemed the right thing to do while introducing our first US brewed stouts to the public. We loved that beer so much we decided to brew it again, at our own place in Landvetter, Sweden. Coffee was probably the best coffee stout we’ve ever done! So, what do you do with the best coffee stout you’ve ever done? Well, you rest it on freshly emptied cognac barrels of course getting a dessert for grown up’s, a fire place sipper and a little something with what’s in your cup, all in one. Avec!

(Bottle) Brownish black colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasty nose with notes of espresso, oak wood, cognac, dark bread, tobacco, soy sauce, cacao and chocolate truffles. Malty, roasty taste with espresso, oak wood, cognac, tobacco, soy sauce, cacao and a balanced coffee bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet (but not as much as feared). The wood and cognac character balances out the coffee quite well. Ok, on the boozy side, but rich and tasty. Very nice.

Flaska från SB. Svart med moccafärgad krona. Inledningsvis rakt igenom fat och inget annat. Massor av Cognac och fat till den grad att grundölen knappt märks. Efter ett tag öppnar den upp sig något. Stora mängder choklad, än mer än kaffet som snarare ställer sig lite i bakgrunden här. Även en del kokos från fatet. Verkligen het i sin fatprofil, vilket känns lika ovanligt som det är välkommet i svenska ölscenen. Förstår om inte alla gillar det, men känns som en djärv frisk fläkt. Mycket gott.

Svart med medelstort skum. Söt och värmande med lätt lakritston. Kaffesmaken är inte påtaglig men den finns där. Cognacsmaken är mer lättfunnen och ger det hela lite karaktär.
