Mocha Stout

This is a beloved stout. When first introduced as a limited special collaboration release with Cerveceria Insurgente and San Diego homebrewer Chris Banker (after his recipe won our annual homebrew competition) , it was an instant hit and fans began clamoring for its return. Seeing as how its amazing flavor profile is evocative of Mexican hot chocolate, featuring coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and a generous amount of chocolate, we concluded it was the perfect stout to re-release in celebration of the Holidays and the entire winter season. This is now a highly anticipated yearly tradition that we are pleased to present from us to you, and makes a perfect wintry gift from you to your friends, loved ones, or simply to yourself. Cheers!

330ml can from the Beer Bank, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, liqourice, cinnamon, marzipan, lavender. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich, roasty, liqourice, light chocolate, floral aromatic hop palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel. Not your average imperial stout!

Canned on 27/06/2020, Best before 27/06/2022, 355ml can, Imperial Stout inspired by Mexican hot chocolate

Strong gusher caused the unpleasant mess, points off for that.

APPEARANCE: deep brown, dark color, cola hues under the light, small brown head with very tiny bubbles

AROMA: adjuncts driven aroma with cinnamon & nutmeg in the foreground but luckily doesn't overpower the whole thing; bitter sweet chocolate with mild vanilla, cocoa powder, light dried chilies, toasted bread, brown bread and hints of bread crust, moderate sweetness of toasted sugars, brown sugar, hints of oatmeal and green peppers, no obvious roast & hop profile on the nose, neither coffee

TASTE: light fluffy carbonation, medium body with lightly syrupy and oily mouthfeel, a bit thin on the edges; light sweet onset of brown sugar, syrup and caramel that is quickly cut by a harsh bitterness of roasted malts and hops - burnt grains, chicory, wormwood, bitter barley coffee and grapefruit peel; light alcohol glow supported by a light chili heat, mild cinnamon and nutmeg but way less noticeable than in the aroma, hints of black coffee with woody undertones, mild to light soapy presence in the middle; more chili heat in the second half of the can, subtle umami and blood notes in the background; notes of high cocoa chocolate & coffee; lingering roast bitterness and chili heat in the aftertaste with gentle spices - cinnamon; hints of earth, very restrained vanilla

OVERALL: to bad for gushing, otherwise typical Stone bite in form of harsh roasted bitterness and chili heat, lacks in mouthfeel and body, a bit soapy and unbalanced at the edges;

Ma ei mäleta kas ma usa versiooni olen joonud... Aga see on way mõrum kui berliini oma... Väga tugev kõrbenud mõrudus ja päris happeline. Saksa versioon meeldis rohkem.

Enjoyable as usual. Great nose. Slightly thin on the palate, but full flavored. Drying finish.
