A high fermentation beer, Jenlain Ambrée is one of the first specialty beers in France and is been brewed since 1922. It owes its success to its inimitable taste stronger than all fashions. Its copper color, its aromas of cooked fruit and caramel make it a beer widely recognized for tasting but also a perfect ally for cooking.

Can from Carrefour, central Calais. Amber with a lot of fizz and a swiftly vanishing head. Tastes like an industrial lager with the malt content beefed up a lot; maybe in fact like an insustrial lager mixed with a traditional British ESB. The malty, earthy woodland mulch ESB bits are ok, but unfortunately the strong carbonation and tinny, slightly sour lager flavour don’t go with the maltiness and frankly are pretty grim in their own right. Not for me at all this one.

On tap at the GJBF, I was told it was 6.5%? It poured a clear amber with a nice fruity mal aroma. The body was fairly light and it had a slick mouthfeel The taste was fruity with a touch of grapes and caramel. Alright.

Bottle from notes. Nose is toffee, malt and butter scotch. Taste is malt, toffee, butter scotch a little almond, over pronounced alcohol in the finish with a little pepper. Decent, and a lot like a scotch beer

Bottle, 9C. Clear copper with a white head. Aroma of sticky bread crusts, raisins, quinces, gentle spices. Lowish carbonation. Sweet, malty with some dried fruit, creeping bitterness with spices, maybe just slightly metallic. Alcohol hidden, although it’s rich. Bitterness is discreet but insistent in a way that I really liked. Not a thriller but a classy and pleasant drink.

Boks 0,5l fra U-Express, Nice. Delt med Rune under rateseanse i H9 1 Okt 13. Brun med litt rødskjær. Veldig høyt tett skum. Tett lacing. Forsiktig maltaroma. Smaken er på den søte siden. Karamell & mandler. Syrlig avslutning. Svakt uklar i siste kvelling.

Test vom 3.1.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,12,9,10,14,10 - 10,55

500ml can shared by Finn. Next to clear amber body under a frothy white head. Rings of lace down the glass. Modest aroma of chocolate malts added by a grassy touch. Flavours of apricot, peach and mid-sweet malts. Sweet ending with metallic alcohol. Average (at Finns, Tromsø 01.010.2013).
